Biological Activity
L-693403 maleate is a potent and selective inhibitor of plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), which is a key regulator of fibrinolysis. PAI-1 is a serine protease inhibitor that inhibits both tissue plasminogen activator and urokinase-type plasminogen activator, thereby preventing the activation of plasmin and the subsequent degradation of fibrin clots. Elevated levels of PAI-1 have been linked to several pathological conditions, including thrombosis, atherosclerosis, and fibrosis.
L-693403 maleate acts as a competitive inhibitor of PAI-1, binding to the active site of the protein. The structure of L-693403 maleate has been optimized to increase its potency and selectivity towards PAI-1, while reducing its binding affinity towards other serine proteases.
